New product development for AIBO has already ceased, and production is targeted to stop by the end of fiscal year 2005. However, after-sales support will continue.
There will also be no new development for QRIO. R&D in the AI area which was developed in the AIBO and QRIO businesses will continue and will be deployed in a broad range of consumer electronics products.
QRIO, just off a career high music video release, is known to mix with the party crowd.
Although he has been recently seen out with the ladies, he has remained silent about the Sony announcement.AIBO
AIBO spokesdog Pedro, who recently acquired enough bandwith to attain conciousness, commented yesterday, "Have you ever been overseas?"

Funny spin on some really bad news. Thanks. The Japanese press here has also been very negative about Sony's decision and deliberately picked photos for their articles that are critical of Sony.
ReplyDeleteThey should spin all that Aibo IP off into a separate corporation and do an IPO. Or sell it all to the Roomba people for an undisclosed sum.
ReplyDeleteThe whole robot market may be premature, but it doesn't make sense to drop it. It might really pay off 10 years down the line. I guess they are continuing some of the resarch.
